Many long years ago, on asking his daughter‘s hand in marriage, the father asked me how much money I made?
I now believe that he should have asked a more important question also: “How much time does it take you to make that money?”
Along with increasing our incomes, we should also plan to decrease the time it takes to make this money.
Remember, there are things that money can’t buy; our earning in lesser time means generating more time as well: time used in activities such as:
- Taking your elderly father for weekly walks in the parks where he enjoys discussing the bygone days with you.
- Taking your mom shopping at the old markets she visited when you were a toddler.
- Reading the explanation (Tafseer) of the Quran.
- Spending time in the gym and burning that extra fat.
Lastly, we must avoid the disastrous habit of spending according to our earnings rather than our needs. We must only buy a Mercedes because we need it and not because we can afford it.
So dear friend, if someone proposes for your daughter, would you ask? “How much time does it take you to make that money?”
