The default state of relationship between a father and a child is defined by the father‘s role as a qawwam (sustainer, caretaker, protector) and a murabbi (educator and nurturer), and the child‘s role of being obedient, respectful, and loving. Any deviation from this state that is not sanctioned in the Qur‘an and Sunnah is considered Zulm (ظلم, oppression or injustice).

Zulm is defined as misplacing something from its rightful place, wrongfully depriving someone of their rights, or unjustly claiming something for oneself or granting it to another, thereby denying the rightful claimant.

Effective Parenting is the art and science of preserving this divine default state.
