This Ramadan let us enhance our relations with our relatives. Allah (SWT) says:
(13:20-21)
“They are those who honor Allah‘s covenant, never breaking the pledge, and those who maintain whatever Allah has ordered to be maintained, stand in awe of their Lord and fear strict judgment.”
Narrated ‗Aisha that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The word ‘Ar-Rahm‘ (womb) derives its name from ‘Ar-Rahman‘ (i.e., Allah). So whosoever keeps good relations with it (womb, i.e., Kith and kin), Allah will keep good relations with him, and whosoever severs it (i.e., severs his bonds of Kith and kin), Allah too will sever His relations with him.” (Bukhari 5989)
Narrated Anas bin Malik that I heard Allah‘s Messenger (ﷺ) saying, “Whoever desires an expansion in his sustenance and age, should keep good relations with his Kith and kin.” (Bukhari 2067)
Make a list of all of your relatives. You will be amazed that some of them you may not have met for years while some might be estranged. Promise me that you will mend your relationships with your estranged ones. Visit them with a gift. Hug them. Even if you are not at fault, apologize for the sake of Allah (SWT).
We all want forgiveness. Don’t miss this opportunity this Ramadan.
As we work hard on Nawafil (Non-obligatory), let us not forget that mending relationships in some instances might be Wajib (Obligatory).
